10.2.2 Newfoundland and Labrador

Newfoundland and Labrador reaches farther east than any other place in North America. It even keeps its own time zone. Its heritage is tied to the sea. It was the oldest colony of the British Empire, and it was a valuable prize in Canada's early history. People know it for its fisheries, for small villages along the coast, and for a culture all its own. Today oil and gas drilled offshore bring in a large share of the money. Labrador also holds enormous hydro-electric power.
