Diversity in Canada also includes gay and lesbian Canadians. The law protects them fully and treats them equally, and that protection includes the right to civil marriage. All these different communities, taken together, share one common Canadian identity. That is what is meant by calling Canada a multicultural society: many origins, many faiths and many languages, inside one country that belongs to all of them equally.
