6.4.3 First Nations, Métis and Inuit Representation

First Nations elect band chiefs and councillors. On the reserves these leaders carry heavy duties: housing, schools and other services all fall to them. Beyond the reserve level, Aboriginal organizations operate at three scales — provincial, regional and national. Their role is to give Inuit, Métis and First Nations people a voice. They carry that voice into dealings with the federal government, and with the governments of the provinces and territories.
