8.3.2 The Provincial Legislatures

Provinces have their own parliament buildings, and these are architectural treasures as well. The National Assembly in Quebec was built in the French Second Empire style. The other provincial legislatures use Baroque, Romanesque and neoclassical styles. Those styles come from Greece and Rome, the Greco-Roman heritage of Western civilization, and that is where democracy first began. So the buildings themselves make a point: Canadian democracy has ancient roots, and each province displays them in its own way.
