Manitoba earns its living from three main things: agriculture, mining and generating hydro-electric power. Winnipeg is its most populous city. In Winnipeg's Exchange District you find Portage and Main, the most famous street intersection in Canada. The city also has a French Quarter called St. Boniface. Its Francophone community numbers about 45,000, the largest in Western Canada.
Manitoba is also an important centre of Ukrainian culture. In the 2012 figures, 14 percent of the people there reported Ukrainian origins. The province stands out in another way as well. Of all the provinces, it has the largest Aboriginal population, more than 15 percent according to those same figures.
