The Sovereign is also Head of the Commonwealth. Through that role Canada is joined to a large family of other countries: as of 2012 there were 53 of them besides Canada. These countries cooperate on social, economic and cultural progress. Canada is far from the only constitutional monarchy in the world. Others include Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, The Netherlands, Spain, Japan, Thailand, Jordan and Morocco. So this way of organising a state is used on several continents.
