9.2.1 Service Industries

Service industries do not make goods. Instead they provide services to people and to other businesses. They cover banking, health care, education, retail, tourism, transport, construction, communications and government work. Between them they offer thousands of different kinds of jobs. This is by far the largest part of the Canadian economy. In 2012, more than 75% of working Canadians earned their living in the service sector. That is roughly three workers out of every four. If you meet a working Canadian at random, the odds are they work in services.
